SILVERBACKZ SABL BASKETBALL LEAGUE

We are thrilled to welcome you to the Silverbackz Basketball League (SBL)! Whether you are a seasoned player or someone who’s eager to return to the court, our league is designed to bring together basketball enthusiasts for a fun, competitive, and community-focused experience.

Please take a moment to read through the following information to get a better understanding of what to expect for the upcoming season:

1. League Overview
The Silverbackz Basketball League (SBL) is a premier adult basketball league that brings athletes together to compete, improve their skills, and have fun in a supportive environment. Our league is open to players of all skill levels and is dedicated to promoting good sportsmanship and healthy competition.

2. League Structure & Format
This season, the SBL will feature 6 to 8 teams, and the competition will follow a NCAA March Madness season and playoff structure. Games will be played at Frankbrown Rec. Center on Sundays only!

3. Season Schedule
The first game of the season will kick off in April. You will receive a full schedule soon, which will outline game times, locations, and other key details. We strive to keep the schedule clear and consistent, and updates will be sent via email.

4. Team Rosters
Teams have been formed based on skill level and player preferences. If you haven’t received your team assignment, please check your email shortly for an update. Each team will have a designated captain who will coordinate practices, game-day logistics, and communication.

5. League Rules
The SBL follows standard basketball rules, with some modifications designed to ensure safety and a fair playing environment for all participants. A full list of league rules, including regulations on conduct, substitutions, and game-time expectations, will be distributed via email and posted on our league website.

6. Code of Conduct
We believe in fostering a respectful and inclusive atmosphere. All players are expected to maintain good sportsmanship, respect their teammates, opponents, and officials, and follow the guidelines set forth by the league. Unacceptable behavior will result in disciplinary action, including potential suspension or removal from the league.

7. Fees & Payment
The league participation fee is $250 each team, which covers the cost of facilities, equipment, and administrative expenses. Please ensure your payment is completed by April 1.

The Silverbackz Basketball League (SBL), formerly known as Jr. NBA, is an exciting new 3-on-3 basketball league offering a dynamic and fun environment for players to showcase their skills. Registration for SBL opens on June 15th and closes on August 5th. The league promises an action-packed season with unique events such as All-Star Weekend, which will feature an array of exciting challenges and a championship ring for the top team. Team selection will take place on August 10th at the Frankbrown Rec Center, 235 Opelika

• Format: 3-on-3 basketball with a maximum of 5 players per team.
• Registration Fee: $70 (covers participation and league access).
• Jersey Fee: $45 (for your official league jersey).
• Team Selection: August 10th at Frankbrown Rec Center.

• 5-on-5 Championship Game – There will be a 5-on-5 game for a championship ring during All-Star Weekend.
• 3-Point Contest – Showcase your shooting skills from beyond the arc.
• Free Throw Contest – Test your accuracy at the free-throw line.
• Jelly Layup Battle – A unique challenge featuring creative and stylish layups.
• Skills Challenge – Show off your ball-handling, passing, and agility.

1. Increased Individual Involvement: In 3-on-3, every player has more opportunities to handle the ball, make plays, and showcase their skills, leading to a more personalized and rewarding experience.
2. Faster Pace: 3-on-3 games tend to be faster, with quicker transitions and higher-scoring action, making it more exciting and fun to watch and play.
3.  Better Conditioning: Due to the smaller team size and faster-paced games, players are constantly moving, which helps improve cardiovascular fitness and overall conditioning.
4.  More Opportunities for Skill Development: Players in 3-on-3 need to be well-rounded. With fewer teammates, everyone has to contribute to scoring, defense, and playmaking, which can help players develop a variety of skills, including shooting, passing, and decision-making.
5.  Team Chemistry: With just three players on the court at a time, team dynamics are more intimate. Players need to communicate and work together efficiently, allowing for stronger chemistry and coordination.
6.  Less Complexity: The simpler, smaller format makes 3-on-3 easier for players to understand and get involved with, especially for those new to the game or looking to improve in specific areas.
7.  More Opportunities for Showcasing Unique Skills: In 3-on-3, there’s more space to experiment with creative plays like crossovers, Eurosteps, and flashy layups, which can be seen in the Jelly Layup Battle challenge during All-Star Weekend.
8. Less Time Commitment: 3-on-3 games generally take less time to play than 5-on-5, which makes it more accessible for those with busy schedules or looking for a quicker, high-intensity game.
